This update is NOT meant to be used alone, so do not flash it if you don’t already have the base 2.2 update installed. Not much is known about what the update actually brings to the table, but mentions of better flash support and a faster browser have been thrown around.


Download the update file here, and follow the instructions here to flash the update onto your FRF50-installed nexus one (But of course don’t download the update on that site, use the update that you downloaded here.) That is, if you didn’t already have it via all the hacks that are out there, that were unreliable at best though. No need to update anything, just start up Car Home and navigate away! Google released a full list of countries supported:

“Today we’re launching Google Maps Navigation version 4.2 in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland for Android devices 1.6 and higher.”

You can get it at the Cyanogenmod website, or though CyanogenMod Updater. Some changed listed in the changelog include:

* 360 degree auto-orientation thanks to Optedoblivion
* Updated to latest AOSP code
* Lots of backported Eclair guts
* Fixed Busybox problems
* Improved performance
* OpenVPN integration
* Wifi can be enabled while in airplane mode now


Time to spice up that HTC Dream you got there with some more up to date firmware! Come on Rogers, lets get some firmware updates coming!

There is no current info about what that update will contain, but they assured us that they “will have more information to share on other device upgrades later.“

Its great to see Morotola staying current with their Android versions for their customers.

“LG will release an upgrade to Android 1.6 OS for the LG Eve this Spring, for Rogers customers.(Available for download on Rogers/LG websites)“

It will be available from the LG/Rogers websites. No other time frames have been mentioned except “This spring”.

Although this functionality has been in many of the custom ROMs for rooted devices, its nice to see Google officially supporting multitouch. Video below demonstrating the new Multitouch features.

Lets hope that the Motorola Milestone (Droid) will be receiving it’s 2.1 update soon so it can take part in the multitouch goodness :)
