My bet would be when a GSM version is released. The upcoming T-Mobile nexus s would be compatible with Wind Mobile’s network on 3G (AWS bands), or, if you can handle it, Rogers with Edge-only data connectivity. Roger’s edge network is terribly slow, I lived with a T-Mobile nexus one on Rogers for 5 months and eventually got fed up with it and purchased a at&t nexus one off eBay. Never again will I use a phone that’s incompatible with my cell provider’s 3G network.

It would be great to see a carrier here in Canada pick up a pure google supported device, as us Canadians still have not had a pure android experience phone yet (The HTC Dream was close, but it was still supported by HTC).

Wind Mobile, would you like to take the plunge?

“Hi Everyone. I can confirm that the Dream to Magic upgrade promotion is up and running again:

- Current Rogers customers who activated a new Rogers HTC Dream through Dec. 31, 2009 – either through upgrade or a new activation – may upgrade that device to an HTC Magic for a limited time.

- Upgrades must be done through Customer Care (1-888-Rogers1) or through Rogers.com (existing 3yr data plan required for online upgrades, instructions below). This special upgrade offer does not apply in store.
**Note** This offer is pre-loaded so please ensure the CSR is looking into your account when you talk to them.

- This limited-time upgrade is available between February 9 and February 14 only.

- The $79 upgrade cost of the device, plus the $35 administration fee are being waived. Customers who choose to take advantage of this offer get a $599 phone for $0 with the renewal of a three-year term from the date of the upgrade (For most customers, this will represent a contract extension of seven months or less).

- The upgrade is completely optional. Customers who choose to can stick with their HTC Dreams and remain in their current contracts.

- All Rogers HTC Magic devices have been updated with the 1.5 OS that includes Sense UI. The Rogers HTC Magic will also receive a 2.1 OS upgrade later this year when HTC make it available.

If you run into any problems with this limited time upgrade, please contact the @RogersHelps team via Twitter.

Thanks!“

Ill try phoning again today to try to get my free HTC Magic upgrade…

They also took the liberty of upgrading the SPL and patching the kernel so once you apply their update, you CANNOT root your phone. Now reports have came in that state that Rogers has now cut off outgoing calls to any un-updated phones…The voice cutoff even cuts off calls to 911! Really safe there, Rogers.

There has also been talk about how you can get your outgoing calling back, just ask the Rogers customer service rep to re-enable your outgoing calling and they should remove the calling redirect for you.

What if you don’t want to update to their locked down ROM, but still want the 911 bug fixed, your data back, and the annoying text messages to stop? Just check out our post on rooting or upgrading your Rogers dream radio.

Can anyone else who has not updated confirm that your calls are being redirected to Rogers customer support?

With new documents rising out of the FCC’s database, it appears as if a Rogers/AT&T 3G-compatible Nexus One will show up soon.
