Rogers Rebranding HTC Magic as “Magic+”
Mar 1st
After the big 911 bug fiasco last month that left thousands of people without a data connection and some without the ability to place outgoing calls because of Roger’s forced call redirections, Rogers and HTC worked together on a new software update for HTC Magic devices that included HTC’s Sense UI (and the 911 bug fix, of course). Rogers is now calling all the new Sense-equipped Magics the “HTC Magic+”. The Sense UI update defiantly does put a new face on the Magic here in Canada. A 2.1 update for Rogers Magic has been pinned at mid-2010.

Acer hasn’t set it sights on the North American smartphone market, until now with its partnership with Rogers to bring the Acer Liquid e to Canada. Rogers will be the first carrier in North America to offer the Liquid e. Some released specs of the Liquid e include a 5 megapixel camera, underclocked 768mhz snapdragon processor, 3.5 inch touchscreen, and 3G HSPA and wifi connectivity, and of course the goodness of android 2.1. No price or specific release date has been released yet, but more android phones are defiantly welcome to the north!

“Hi Everyone. I can confirm that the Dream to Magic upgrade promotion is up and running again:

Rogers now blocking outgoing calls on un-updated HTC Dreams?
Feb 9th
There’s been some anger over Rogers first deciding to disable the 3G internet of anyone with an HTC Dream that hasn’t update to their newest ROM, which fixes a 911 bug where 911 calls wouldn’t go through unless the GPS was disable. They also took the liberty of upgrading the SPL and patching the kernel so once you apply their update, you CANNOT root your phone. Now reports have came in that state that Rogers has now cut off outgoing calls to any un-updated phones… More >

It will be available from the LG/Rogers websites. No other time frames have been mentioned except “This spring”.
Nexus One to support Rogers 3G?
Feb 7th
With new documents rising out of the FCC’s database, it appears as if a Rogers/AT&T 3G-compatible Nexus One will show up soon. The current nexus one supports 3G, but only on t-mobile’s network/bands, and for a great android experience you gotta have 3g.
Hopefully a Canadian carrier will pick up the Nexus and offer it on a subsidiary… keeping our fingers crossed…
Get your Rogers HTC Dream Data back!
Feb 6th
If you’re like me and own a HTC Dream on Rogers here in Canada, you’ve probably received all those text messages and automated phone calls from rogers on a daily basis telling you to update your phone to their latest software version. This latest version fixes the E911 bug, a bug in the Roger’s android rom and prevented 911 calls from going through if you had the GPS enabled. What they don’t tell you though, is that after applying their update you will be unable to root your phone and enjoy all the cool root-only apps, like Wifi Tether (Which is pretty awesome). Ive got a solution for you, you can keep your root or root your phone without much trouble, as well as get your 3G back. More >
