Google Navigation comes to Canada

After a long wait, we’ve finally got Google Navigation! That is, if you didn’t already have it via all the hacks that are out there, that were unreliable at best though. No need to update anything, just start up Car Home and navigate away! Google released a full list of countries supported:

“Today we’re launching Google Maps Navigation version 4.2 in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Switzerland for Android devices 1.6 and higher.”

Canada to get Paid Market Apps next week

Wendy Rozeluk, spokesperson for Google Canada, commented in an interview with The Gazette that they hope to announce paid market applications to be available in Canada sometime next week!

“There are many factors that come into play to make sure the selling and purchasing processes run smoothly. It takes time to bring support to more countries, which is something we are working hard to do.”

Lets hope they follow through and open up the whole Android market to Canada, so we can enjoy some of the premium applications that otherwise wouldn’t be available (Unless you rooted your device and used MarketEnabler of course).

Top 5 Android Imaging Apps

FoneHome.co.uk has released their picks for the top 5 android imaging applications. Apps they chose include: Photoshop.com Mobile, with its simple crop, hue, and saturation settings, Camera Pro which includes camera effects and digital zoom, as well as Camera Zoom FX, who’s focus is on filters and effects.

Bell Canada is giving away a free cowbell app to cheer on our Canadian athletes with at this year’s 2010 games at Vancouver, but they seem to have forgotten a few people… their Android users! The Bell cowbell app is only available for iPhone, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile devices :(

And I really wanted a cowbell on my phone I could shake to ring and make lots of noise for everyone around me… oh well, at least I got the virtual one on their site.

Gizmodo’s picks for best Android apps of Febuaray

Gizmodo.com has just released their top picks for this month of February Android apps. Lets see what they’ve chosen…

Urbanspoon: The steady stream of iPhone-to-Android apps continues with Urbanspoon, the app for when you’re all “OMFG I can’t decide where to eat.” Unlike most who make the trip, however, it’s actually just as good as the iPhone version. The basic gist is that if you’re the indecisive type, you can set up to three parameters—price, location, type of food—shake, and it’ll give you a nearby restaurant. Or you can just search for what’s nearby, but that’s boring.
